How to read the lab report
Our certificates report the level of each substance the laboratory tested for, against the limit allowed by the Food Safety and Standards Regulations. Here is what the columns and short forms mean.
What "BLQ" looks like on the scale
A residue result is read against two points: the smallest amount the instrument can measure (LOQ), and the maximum the regulation permits (MRL). A BLQ result means the residue sits below the measurable point, which is well under the permitted limit.
BLQ Below Limit of Quantification
The substance was either absent or present in an amount too small for the laboratory instrument to measure reliably. Any residue is below the quantification level shown on the report.
LOQ Limit of Quantification
The smallest amount the laboratory instrument can measure with confidence. On this report it is 0.005 mg/kg. Anything below this reads as BLQ.
MRL Maximum Residue Limit
The maximum amount of a substance the Food Safety and Standards Regulations permit in food. A BLQ result sits well below this limit.
mg/kg Milligrams per kilogram
The unit used for results, equal to parts per million. It tells you how much of a substance is present relative to the weight of the food.

We test at the level of each product segment rather than every batch. The report shown for a product represents the segment it belongs to.
